Abandoned School House and a Comfy Chair

I originally shot this old school house interior and broken chair back in March of 2012. My wife and I were taking the backroads in northern Illinois somewhere near Rockford when we passed this old building. Of course, I immediately hit the brakes and turned around and started shooting. There was something about the way the light fell on the broken chair. It was not sunny. In fact, it was cold, windy and overcast. I also was struck by the two doors, forcing me to choose which one to enter. Was there a right or wrong decision? Right or wrong? Good or evil? Yes or no? Anyway, over the last 4 years, I have processed this shot at least 5 times now and I think I finally have captured what I saw and felt in 2012. So, it's not exactly a new shot, but what you see here, is a new finished photograph - made today. Day 104 of 365

Frozen Stillness

"The near stillness recalls what is forgotten, extinct angels." --Georg Trakl An old abandoned and forgetten home sits in the frozen stillness of a mid-winter Wisconsin morning.

Marcus Center

A high contrast minimalist black and white photograph of the Marcus Center for the Performing Arts in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. I was struck by how the backside of this building (a performing arts center), was so imposing and sort of ominous. Of course, it didn't help that the day was cold and overcast. Taken in the early afternoon, the sky was white. I wanted a dark feel, so I made the sky black and added the streaks. I also did a lot of digital dodging and burning to bring the focal point to the corners of the two tiers of the structure. I purposely did not make the vertical lines of the corners perfectly straight up and down to add to the dark feel. Taken January 10, 2018.

Urban Ruins

The last remnant of a large industrial complex from late 1800s sits along the Milwaukee River on the East Side of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. This warehouse is to be torn down in the near future.

Dixie Chicken Interior

The Dixie Chicken, also known as The Chicken, has been College Station's most famous watering hole since 1974, and is notable for its role in Texas A&M University tradition. Nationally known, the Dixie Chicken claims to serve the most beer per square foot of any bar in the United States. As a former student at Texas A&M, I'll freely admit I spent quite a bit of time at the Chicken.

The Century Oak

The Century Oak, located in the heart of Texas A&M University campus, is a place that holds a special place in the heart of many Aggies. Well over 100 years old, the tree, a live oak, was one of the first trees planted on the massive 5,200-acre campus. The tree has been the site of numerous marriage proposals, weddings and tourist snapshots because of its immense size and its unique drooping branches, many of which rest on the ground.

Hardy Gallery

The Hardy Gallery in Ephraim, Wisconsin sits directly on the shore of Eagle Harbor on the Green Bay side of the Door County peninsula. The warehouse building, known as the Anderson Warehouse, is covered on all four sides with the names of boats that have docked there, along with the people who have visited.

Water Colors

A watercolor paint tray on a white background. There is something about a set of these simple paints that just makes me happy. Perhaps it reminds me of the hours and hours I spent creating page after page of refrigerator masterpieces as a child. Perhaps it is simply the spectrum of bright colors.
